Week 14: Goodbye~

This is it. It is the final week of the semester. Before I proceed with the goodbye note, let me recap on what had happened this week and the whole semester.

This week, my group had finally submitted our e-learning courseware assessment and our class also had our quiz at the last class. I had a huge relief as this week has been quite hectic as there were several other datelines from the other subject chasing after us. I was glad that I had managed to do all of it in time. 

Moving on to this subject. I have to say that it has been a good semester for me. As I was hoping in the first post during the first week, I am happy to say that my expectation was met as this class did help me in expanding my knowledge on computer and the internet. I have learnt a lot from it like on how to edit audio, video, create podcast, video, poster and even learnt on how to use a software. It was a fruitful semester and I can assure that I did not regret or dislike of having this subject this semester.

I also would like to thank Madam Azida for all the lesson that was passed to us and thank you for being a good lecturer to me. In conclusion, I enjoyed this subject and I would definitely make use of what I have learnt in the future.

Week 13: Progress on the SmartBuilder

Vanakkam! As promised last week, this week I will be updating on my group's progress on the SmartBuilder software. Last week, we have learnt the basics on how to use it. This week, Madam Azida brief a little bit more on how to use the cursor and how to put in music into our courseware.

As a brief explanation, our group had chose the topic Synonym and Antonym as our lesson and we had the tertiary student as our target learners. We chose the theme of Cinderella where our background and exercise will be related to 

As the class ended, we continued to do our courseware outside of the class by installing the software into our laptops. We had several parts in our courseware including; the objectives, the lessons, two exercises and lastly a test at the end of 

Lastly, Madam Azida briefed on how to submit our assignment which will be due on next week.

Week 12: SmartBuilder

Sain uu! This week our class will be proceeding with the last task. I was introduced to a software called the SmartBuilder. It is a software where you can build an e-learning courseware assessment and this will be our final  assignment for this course. We were divided into groups and each of the groups will have find a topic for our e-learning and have the tertiary level English learners as our target learners.

With the SmartBuilder, we are able to make e-learning tools that include; lessons, activities, games and more. This way, the learners will be able to learn in a more interesting way rather than the traditional classroom method.

In the class, our madam Azida taught us the basics on how to use the software like on how to make the 'home', 'back', 'next' buttons and on how to make our design become interesting by having the themes and pictures.

At first, it was a bit complicated for me to handle this software as this was my first time using it but with the guidance provided and some trial and errors, I have finally gotten the hang of the basic steps of it.

Our task is now to make our own e-learning tools and submit it by the final week of the semester. My group have chosen the topic Synonym and Antonym and so we are now finding ideas for the lessons and activities. So, I will update again about our progress in the next post.

Week 11: ARCS Model

Hej! As I mentioned on last week's post, this week I will be posting about one of the model designs. My group has been chosen to do on the ARCS Model.

What is ARCS Model? 

ARCS Model is a motivational design theories created by John Keller to promote and sustain motivation in the learning process. The ARCS stands for attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction.

1. Attention

There are two ways of gaining the attention of the learners; perceptual arousal where surprise is used to gain the interest or inquiry arousal where curiosity is stimulated by giving challenging questions.

Several methods that can be used to gain the interest; active participation (games or role play), variability (videos or mini discussion), or inquiry (brainstorming activity). 

2. Relevance

Keller used to established the relevance to increase the learners' motivation. Six major strategies that had been used including; experience, present worth, future usefulness, needs matching, modeling and choice.

3. Confidence

Help students understand their likelihood for success. If they feel they cannot meet the objectives or that the cost (time or effort) is too high, their motivation will decrease.

4. Satisfaction

Learners feel that learning is satisfying and rewarding in form of achievement of praises by the higher up or the skills that had been learned felt useful and beneficial towards them.

Week 10: Instructional Design

Privyet! This week my class was introduced into something interesting and new. It was about instructional design. What is that you ask? Instructional design is the practice of systematically designing, developing and delivering instructional products and experiences, both digital and physical, in a consistent and reliable fashion towards an efficient, effective, appealing, engaging and inspiring acquisition of knowledge. It is to determine the state and needs of the learner, defining the end goal of instruction, and becoming as assist. To make it easier, one of the examples of instructional design is mobile application.

BUT! Making a mobile application is not just literally for fun. We must follow the theories and models. Do you remember CALL from my previous post? It is related to this instructional design. Most of the design models were based on one model that is ADDIE model that consists of five phases; analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.

Other that that, there are also several models like GAGNE 9 Events, Dick and Carey, Rapid Prototyping, Guaranteed Learning, ASSURE, and ARCS which, I will explain on the next post as all of us has to make a presentation on it.

Week 9: Trashtag Challenge

Aloha! It is finally the 9th week. This week, my partner and I have been working on the Trashtag Challenge campaign video. We have been editing and recording the narration part using the Powtoon and video editor and finally, our video is done!🙌

Before I post the video, I would to share the experience while making it. There were few mistakes were made like, we were supposed to record our narration before making the video but we ended up making the video first. Fortunately it was not hard on editing both the video and the script so they were synchronized with each other. The another problem that happened was that I was having a sore throat which affect my voice for the narration but thanks to Madam Azida who taught us on how to edit the audio, I managed to fix my voice during the editing part. So in the end, all is well.

Week 8: Awareness Video

Assalamualaikum! It is a new week and our class was given a new assignment. This time, we have to do an awareness explainer video.

Before we started on the video, as usual, Madam Azida had first brief us on how the video would supposed to be. We were shown the example of videos like the video of cancer awareness and saving the Blue Whale campaign video. 

The theme that was given to us was a campaign video. As this was again a pair work, my partner and I had discussed on the topic that we would like to work on. A few ideas were given and we decided to work on the Trashtag Challenge campaign where people can find a place that needed some cleaning. Then, they can post the picture of before and after the cleaning, and post it on the social media. This can be an encouragement for other people to do the same thing.

We sketched our storyline and content for the video and proceeded on making the script. 

Now, we have already our full storyline and script and we will proceed on the video making and narration recording. I will show you the video next week by posting it here.
